This fabulous necklace was made during the 19th century when Archaeological discoveries were reflected in the jewelry designs of the day. This necklace is unmarked but tested as sterling silver. It was very finely made, and the coins have designs on both sides. I am not sure if these are actual coins or antique copies. The Roman Empire was vast, and many coins were made. However, I suspect that since they are uniform in size and shape that they are likely replicas. The frames are quite Egyptian in style, mimicking the papyrus design of ancient times. I tried to find a necklace like it on the internet as a comp, but did not find anything like it. It measures 17.5" in length and it has a hook on the reverse center of the chain which could hold an additional pendant of desired.
