This lovely little bauble features royal blue enamel and an even royaler purple stone which appears to be paste. Paste was generally glass made to imitate gemstones in antique jewelry prior to lab made stones. They were hand cut and polished and set in gold and silver. The locket tests 14k and has a removable frame which holds in a separate crystal. It is pressure fit to hold the glass in and had a hole in the rim to insert a pin to pull it up and put. Normally these pieces had the crystal bezel set into the insert, but that does not appear to be the case here. This locket would be fitting on a chain or a watch chain necklace. There is minor enamel loss on the rim and minimal wear to the paste considering the great age of this piece.
