This fabulous necklace is a seamless marriage of an impressive 1850s Victorian pave turquoise snake head and an early 20th century gold curb chain. The snake's head is embellished with an old mind cut diamond and dozens of pave turquoise. The underside of the snake's head is equally as interesting and features hand engraving. Since the snake's head had had a loop to hang, pendant or locket, this silver pave turquoise heart has been added but can easily be replaced with a pendent or locket of your choice.
During the Victorian period, the snake as a motif in jewelry was employed not as a fearsome object, but as a romantic one. Queen Victoria's engagement ring featured a snake, and when a snake was depicted grasping its own tail forming a circle, it represented eternity. This necklace weighs over 35 grams without the heart and is a wearible length of 17" from the clasp slot to the end of the chain ( not including the clasp tongue)
