SOLD This gorgeous 19th century chatelaine depicts swans, a bird and an urn. It pulls apart to reveal a compartment for needles. In the 19th century and prior, ladies of high station wore beautiful chatelaines at their waist from which dangled useful items. This impressive example could be worn as a necklace on a wide ribbon choker or watch chain, or on a belt as originally intended. If born as a necklace, the chains could be shortened. However, I wanted to keep this beautiful item intact. There is a Hallmark of a unicorn head alongside a 13 in a circular stamp which represents 81% silver in Germany.
